There was a nature show on the other day that highlighted the rivalry between Arabian Wolves and Striped Hyenas. Hyenas always seem to be cast in the villain role, but I think that only makes me like them more. They look so prehistoric and brutish, and so perfectly well suited to it. Seeing hyenas makes me think just how great it would be to watch a nature documentary about smilodons, dire wolves, and brontotheria, or one where we're meant to feel happy when the hyenas beat the noble carnivores.
